After days of driving, we finally arrived on the south island. Heather, Laura and I said goodbye to my parents in Picton, where they would spend the next couple of days touring the wineries for which the Marlborough region is famous. While my parents enjoyed the luxuries and comforts of the New Zealand wine country, we ventured up the Queen Charlotte Sound to Endeavor Inlet. Once there, we began what was to be a three-day hike along the Queen Charlotte track, a journey that proved to be a little more than what our bodies could handle...

Wow! What a hike! What would day 3 have been like if you had continued on foot? Was it another 25 km? Could you have stopped at 12 and made it a 4 day hike? I expected tents and sleeping bags on your backs when Colleen told me about it. l
Hope you are loving Bali. Lessensoo
Yeah, it was going to be another 25 km. We'd covered the most difficult part on that second day, but our bodies really were failing us. We could have done it in 4 days if we'd had the equipment, which we didn't. We had to rely on the guesthouses and resorts that were scattered along the coves for our accommodations, and those were few and far between.
