The China Journal - Day 1

This is the kind of thing that's only supposed to happen in the movies. I always scoffed at that scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom when the giant insects and monkey brains are served (complete with monkey head bowls - eyeballs and facial hair still intact). The situation was simply too preposterous to take at face value, and arguably detracts from the believability and realism of the film (which the Indiana Jones films are well known for). The notion that this would happen to real people in the real world seemed far from a likely possibility. But as I lift up a piece of meat from the dish I'm eating, I can't help but note its similarity to an animal heart, aorta et al.
